Dr. Don Tyndall is Professor in the Department of Diagnostic Sciences and General Dentistry at the UNC School of Dentistry. He received his D.D.S. in 1980 from the UNC School of Dentistry, his M.S.P.H. in Radiological Hygiene and Medical Physics from the UNC School of Public Health in 1984, and his Ph.D. in Health Physics and Radiation Biology from UNC in 1988.

He has won several awards for teaching excellence at UNC. Dr. Tyndall has been the Director of Radiology for the School of Dentistry from 1988 to the present and serves as the course director for two pre-doctoral radiology courses. Dr. Tyndall has also served as a Commissioner on the North Carolina Radiation Protection Commission from 1988 to 2005 and as Program Director of the Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology Graduate Program at the School of Dentistry from 1993 to 2006. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology and was a Director and past President of the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology. Dr. Tyndall recently served as the Councilor for Scientific Affairs and Public Policy of the Executive Council of the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology.

Dr. Tyndall holds memberships in such organizations as the American Dental Association, the American Academy of Oral and Maxillofacial Radiology, The International Association of Dentomaxillofacial Radiology and the International Association for Dental Research. He has maintained a private practice in oral and maxillofacial radiology, housed in the School of Dentistry, since 1991. His research interests include: 3-D digital imaging, implant radiology and applications of cone beam computed tomography in dentistry. His work has been published in more than 90 journal articles.
